KIU, Western Campus – The KIU Western Campus Chess Consortium has launched the 2023 Inter-Faculty Chess competition which is due to take place from August to December.

The competition will be contested by the top 4 players from each Faculty’s tournament and the winning faculty will become the campus chess champion and receive a trophy plus certificates of acknowledgement for each of the 4 representatives of that faculty.

Contestants also earn weights depending on their performance in the tournament, which contributes to their internal chess ranking. The weights for winning the inter-faculty chess tournament are 8 weights per player.

According to the current internal chess ratings as of May 24, 2023, Joseph Onen is leading with 83 weights followed by Solomon Mugoda with 50 and Gift Wagaba, Denise Butungi plus Emmanuel Natumanya to complete the top 5.

The KIU Western Campus Chess Consortium is a vibrant student club; with members meeting every evening at Campus View Restaurant to hone their chess skills, uniting students from different faculties and schools.
