KIU, Western Campus – Students of the January 2024 intake from KIU Western Campus have today completed their orientation process which started on February 6.
The event, which took place in the KIU Teaching Hospital Conference Hall, involved members of staff from different departments of the university guiding students on how to go about their day-to-day academic and personal life.
Among the staff members to orient the students included those from the Directorates of Finance, Admissions, ICT, Students Affairs, Academic Affairs, Quality Assurance and Deans and Heads of Departments from the different faculties.
Others included the Guild representatives, Campus Administrator, Customer care officers, Bursary Officer, security officers, Reproductive Health Uganda, religious leaders, the in-charge IDs/tags/immigration and Public Relations and marketing.
The Dean of Students Affairs (DSA) Flora Bamutura (pictured below), warned the students against indiscipline, informing them that seriousness starts immediately.
“Seriousness begins now,” she said. “For those who want to contest for leadership, you must study well because we screen the grades of every contestant,” she added.
Bamutura also warned them against practicing partisan politics and encouraged them to involve themselves with associations because there is a reason why they were created.
The Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics and Research (ADVC-A&R) Dr. Ibrahim Babangida, who represented the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) encouraged them to make good of the university facilities like the laboratories and library.
“You should work very hard because the facilities are there so that when you finish, you can work with some of the top employers in Uganda. We are all where we are (university administrators) because of hard work,” he told them.
Dr. Babangida also reminded the students to repay the faith their parents have put in them because they will spend a lot of money on them during the course of their studies.
The students later went on a tour of the university Library, and will have their Faculty orientations on Friday, February 9, 2024 before they begin lectures on Monday.
