Museveni Opens Entebbe Market Ahead of Election Day

KIU, Main Campus - On January 6, 2021, the President of Uganda, H.E Y.K Museveni officially opened the Kitooro Market in Entebbe Municipality. 

This comes after postponing the opening date from last year.

Kitooro market is part of the 12 modern markets that were being constructed by the government across the country and have since been opened.

According to the Minister of State for Local Government, Ms. Jennifer Namuyangu, the market is worth UGX25 billion and can accommodate over 930 stalls.

Besides according to MrVincentDePaulKayanja, the mayor of Entebbe municipality, all vendors in Kitooro will be required to cease operating their businesses along the roads and relocate to the market.

“The vendors have been involved in all the market construction process right from the beginning of the work plan and all the adjustments that have been carried out. We assure you that the vendors will be resettled in the market without any politicking” he said.

Mr. Kayanja said the market will add value to the municipal's revenue collections which will help the municipal enhance service delivery to residents.

As it is, the president also opened a new hospital in Entebbe that will cater to children's needs.
