"I was not born smart; instead, I got to where I am now by a combination of perseverance, vision, and hard effort, as well as the help of my supervisors and my university, Kampala International University (KIU)." This phrase encapsulates my PhD journey at KIU, which was nothing short of transformative.

As I sit here, reflecting on my five-year PhD journey (2018–2023), I am reminded of countless moments of doubt, fear, and uncertainty. Sometimes I felt like giving up when the pressure seemed too much to bear. But I did not. I persevered, driven by a passion for research and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to my field.

My PhD experience was a journey of self-discovery, one that tested my limits, challenged my assumptions, and pushed me to grow in ways I never thought possible. Through it all, I was fortunate to have had the support of my supervisors, Associate Professors Margaret Kareyo and Chinecherem Umezuruike, who guided me, encouraged me and believed in me even when I did not believe in myself.

Now that my PhD adventure is over, I can take stock of everything I have gone through and the things I have learned. Following this protracted process of learning and action, I was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Management Science, Option: Management Information Systems.

Through my thesis, I was able to learn a lot about information systems as a key instrument for the sustainability and effectiveness of production in key areas of management science, all thanks to KIU which provided me with a scholarship and a nurturing environment with rich resources, and a community of scholars passionate about making a difference.

Finally, would I pursue a PhD again if I could go back in time? The answer is definitely yes! Despite the challenges, the experience has been rewarding and fascinating and my time at KIU has been nothing short of remarkable, and I am proud to be a part of this vibrant academic community.

As I look back on my journey, I am reminded of the wise words of Vernon Sanders Law, "Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward." My PhD journey was a testament to this quote, and I am honored to have had the experience.

Reflecting on achieving my PhD in 2023, I am overwhelmed with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and gratitude. I humbly acknowledge that this milestone was not solely mine, but rather a testament to the unwavering support and encouragement of my loved ones, colleagues, and mentors who journeyed with me every step of the way.

As I move forward, I am excited to take on new challenges, continue growing, and make a meaningful contribution to my field. As KIU celebrates 25 years of excellence, I hope my story will inspire others to pursue their passions, persevere in the face of challenges, and never give up on their dreams, just as KIU has inspired and empowered me to achieve my goals.
