KIU, Main Campus - Oliver Maxwell's installation as President of the Rotaract Club of KIU on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, marked a significant moment for both him and the club. He succeeded Mildred Kwagala, and their joint efforts transformed the club into one of the best in District 9214.
Maxwell had assumed the role of President at the beginning of July, following Rotary norms. However, during the installation and induction ceremony, which was jointly organized with the Rotaract Club of Muyenga, he was officially confirmed in his position.
The ceremony was graced by Professor Augustus Nuwagaba, a renowned Economist and Former President of the Rotary Club of Muyenga, adding glamour and fun to the event.
"I am happy that I have gotten an opportunity to serve as the president of this mighty club," Maxwell stated after his installation. "It doesn't happen every day, and it's not for everyone, so I treasure it. It gives one an opportunity to develop their leadership skills, as embodied in our goals."
He continued, "This is how far the passion to serve humanity has brought me. It started as a desire, developed into a hobby, and is now in my blood. That's why I serve above self."
Maxwell expressed gratitude towards his predecessor, Mildred Kwagala, whose term of service was described as highly successful.
"I thank the members of the Rotaract Club of Kampala International University for trusting me and believing in my leadership skills. I also thank Immediate Past President Kwagala Mildred for the year well served and for successfully achieving her goals."
Maxwell pledged to focus on meaningful projects during his one-year tenure as president.
"Rotaract Club of Kampala International University is now a well-established club proudly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Muyenga and has stable members. In my year, the club aims to serve humanity until it hurts."
"We want to embark on meaningful and helpful projects within our societies. We shall achieve this by partnering with different clubs and stakeholders out there. That's what's on our agenda for this year."
He concluded by encouraging students with a passion for serving humanity to join them.
"Rotaract is a place where all youth must be. It is a group of noble people who will develop your skills and character at the same time. It gives one an opportunity to connect to the world."
Besides Maxwell's installation,17 students were officially inducted into the Rotaract Club of KIU, therefore, bringing the total number of members to 50.
