KIU, Main Campus – While addressing the nation on the state of COVID-19 in Uganda on 28th March 2020, President Yoweri Museveni, suggested a mobile quarantine for the truck drivers transporting cargo across East Africa.

After discussions with the heads of state of neighbouring countries, an understanding was reached which involved the decision to test truck drivers two times a month for Coronavirus, and to implement a mobile quarantine on them which requires controlled movement.

“I had a long discussion with H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E Paul Kagame on the phone, and we agreed that our Ministries of Health can develop a common plan for them,” said the President.

“Quarantine doesn’t mean that you are stationary. It just means that even if you are moving, your movement is controlled and contained,” he added.
