School of Allied Health Sciences Wins KIU Western Campus Football Gala

KIU, Western Campus – The School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) won this year’s football gala after defeating Clinicals 2-0 in the finals on Saturday, February 24th, 2024.

The gala started on February 23rd, 2024, with the group stage matches with Biomedicals defeating School of Nursing 2-1 at Bushenyi playground and Business and Administration overcoming SAHS 3-2 at Kizinda playground.

Overall 12 matches were played in the group stages with Biomedicals and Nursing from Group A and SAHS and Clinicals from Group B progressing to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Clinicals beat Biomedicals 2-0 and SAHS and Nursing drew 2-2 to go to penalties where SAHS came out on top 5-4.

According to the Guild Sports Minister Nathan Nkundimana, the tournament went on well and the organisers experienced no glitches.

“It was a successful one because eight faculties participated, spectators were in thousands, professional referees were used and the weather was good and conducive,” he said.

Alex Nyanga Ngobi, the Chairperson of the organizing committee for the gala praised SAHS for their organization and preparation, which helped them win the title.

"It was a remarkable journey for Team Allied (SAHS) straight away from their organization meetings, showcasing exceptional skill and determination throughout this year's Inter-faculty Sports Gala,” he said.

The Dean of Students Affairs (DSA) Ms Florah Bamutura and the Deputy DSA in charge of sports Ms. Malkiah Haulah oversaw the proceedings and were responsible for a well-organized tournament.

The top scorers were Caiphus Wandera from Nursing, Abdulkhalid Yiga Matovu from Biomedicals and Brian Ssejjemba from SAHS with four goals each and Andrew Basita from Business and Management came in second with 3 goals.
