KIU, Western Campus – Timeless Mission, a student organization within KIU Western Campus promoting debate and public speaking, will host the KIU High School Debate series season 2, slated for September 24.
The debate, which will see over 30 secondary schools vie for the top prize, is being held under the theme “Addressing Mental Health Challenges Affecting the Youth in Uganda” and will be held in the Conference Hall of KIU Teaching Hospital.
According to Gracious Nuwasasira, the President of Timeless Mission, the debate is being held in line with their mission of mentoring debaters, public speakers, writers and poets as well as promoting research and innovation through training, organization and adjucating debates, dialogues, solving brain challenges among others.
“Students will acquire knowledge about different aspects of life that will determine their mental health status because the debate motions are about issues like drug abuse, depression, sexual harassment and the like,” Nuwasasira told this website.
The competition will have preliminary rounds one, two and three in the morning, semi-finals between 3:00 pm and 4 pm followed by the finals.
Presidential adviser on special operations General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been invited as the Chief Guest at the competition though he is yet to confirm his attendance.
The winning school will walk away with a trophy and other prizes for the best performing schools will include school bags and scholastic materials.
