Civil Engineering is the one of the oldest engineering disciplines and a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of physically infrastructures like roads, bridges, canals, dams and buildings. Civil engineers are important to the society as they are often referred as ‘Nation Builders’.
At KIU, the Department of Civil Engineering is multi-faceted and maintains its strong links with the construction industry. The department has well equipped laboratories for experimental and research work. Along with Academics, the students here are encouraged to engage extra-curricular and co-curricular activities which are essential for personality development, nurturing of team spirit and development of organizational skills.
The Department offers a two year diploma programme, four year Bachelor programme and Masters programme with duration of two years.
The civil engineering program at KIU comprises five specialization areas namely:
- Construction and Project management
- Environmental engineering
- Geotechnical engineering
- Structural engineering
- Transportation engineering
- Water Resources Engineering
Although each area has its own special body of knowledge and engineering tools, they all rely on the same fundamental core principles. Civil engineering projects often draw expertise from many of these areas and programmes.
