When Tausi I. Msasi left Tanzania, came to Uganda and joined Kampala International University (KIU) in January 2023 to pursue a Bachelor’s in Human Resource Management, her initial goal was simple: earn a degree and adjust to life in Uganda. But over time, KIU became much more than a place of study — it became a community that challenged her, nurtured her, and transformed her.
Her inspiration for choosing HR was rooted in a passion for people and a desire to improve HR practices in Uganda and Tanzania. KIU’s flexible classes and practical approach gave her the tools to apply knowledge immediately in NGOs and businesses. Along the way, she achieved milestones she is deeply proud of: raising her CGPA, joining study groups, and successfully defending her research project on performance appraisal practices and employee commitment.
Personally, she overcame her fear of public speaking through class presentations, learned to manage stress, and sharpened her time management skills. Professionally, she gained practical HR knowledge, strengthened her communication and analytical skills, and grew confident through case studies, group projects, and internships. Her role as Swahili Club Ambassador added another dimension, allowing her to organize events and build connections across cultures.
Her fondest memories include quiet afternoons in the library, internship days on campus, and celebrating small wins with classmates. Receiving a bursary eased financial pressures, giving her space to focus on learning and growth. And as KIU’s diverse community embraced her, she no longer felt like a stranger in Uganda — instead, she found belonging and support.
Looking ahead, Msasi plans to begin in an entry-level HR role, applying lessons from her internship, and gradually move into HR analytics and policy work. Her message to continuing students is clear: get involved beyond the classroom, join clubs, take on projects, and build connections early — because those experiences shape you more than the degree alone.
As she celebrates this milestone, Msasi acknowledges her late parents, siblings, lecturers, mentors, and friends who stood by her. Her journey at KIU is a testament to resilience, growth, and the power of community.
