The Department of Educational Foundations is one of the pioneer departments in the College of Education Open and Distance e-Learning at KIU. The Department is known for its focus on innovation and creativity and its ability to attract accomplished students and scholars from the world over. The department houses a number of courses at postgraduate level aimed at building capacity in areas of leadership equity and excellence; transformational change; collaborative decision making; inquiry and reflective practices. Such interactions develop candidates’ skills and knowledge base to solve practical problems encountered in educational organizations. The department also runs programmes that equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge and values needed to teach and work with children and adults with special needs. Other specialized areas run by the department at graduate level are in the fields of education geography, history, linguistics, English Language and sociology.
