Falastin Feisal Abdullahis Journey in Public Health at KIU

Choosing the Master of Public Health at Kampala International University was driven by a passion to improve community health through disease prevention, health promotion, and evidence-based decision-making. The program provided practical skills in epidemiology, research, and health management, equipping me to address public health challenges and contribute to better health outcomes.

Building on this foundation, one of the greatest achievements was successfully completing the MPH program while developing expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and disease prevention.

Coursework and research projects also sharpened my analytical and research abilities, while the demands of balancing academic, professional, and personal responsibilities fostered perseverance, discipline, and resilience. These experiences strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, all qualities essential for public health practice.

This academic journey was also deeply transformative. Beyond technical knowledge, KIU provided opportunities to grow personally. Adaptability, confidence, and self-discipline flourished through interactions with peers and faculty from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. These exchanges broadened perspectives and enhanced my ability to collaborate and lead effectively.

Community service and academic engagement were also central to my experience. Participation in health awareness initiatives, outreach programs, and public health discussions allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. Group projects, seminars, and research activities fostered teamwork, problem-solving, and organizational skills, strengthening my capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Above all, the friendships and connections formed along the way remain among the fondest memories. Sharing experiences with students from different cultures enriched understanding of global health issues and made campus life both rewarding and memorable.

During my study at KIU, the university revealed itself as a supportive environment that nurtured my academic excellence, personal growth, and professional development. The diversity of students and staff enriched classroom discussions, while faculty guidance and peer collaboration fostered confidence and belonging.

Looking ahead, the goal is to apply the knowledge and skills gained to improve community health, contribute to disease prevention, and support effective public health programs. Long-term aspirations include taking on leadership roles in public health organizations and advancing sustainable health initiatives, while remaining committed to continuous learning and research.

To continuing students, three guiding principles stand out:

  • Commit to your studies and embrace every learning opportunity.
  • Manage your time wisely, balancing academics with personal well-being and professional growth.
  • Build strong networks with lecturers, classmates, and professionals to open doors for future opportunities.

As I celebrate this tremendous growth, my gratitude goes first to Allah for His guidance and blessings, then to my supportive parents whose encouragement and sacrifices made this journey possible. I also extend my appreciation to KIU administration, lecturers, staff, and fellow students for creating a nurturing environment filled with collaboration, friendship, and inspiration.

This accomplishment is not just the completion of a degree, this is just the beginning of a lifelong commitment to advancing public health and serving communities with dedication and purpose.
