#KIU33rdGrad: Loyce Watsembas Path of Growth and Leadership at KIU

Pursuing a Bachelor of Science with Education at Kampala International University was a decision shaped by my strong interest in science subjects and my passion for teaching. I have always enjoyed sharing knowledge and helping others understand concepts in a simple and practical way. KIU gave me the opportunity to turn that passion into a profession, opening doors to both academic growth and leadership.

As I reflect on my journey, I am most proud of the academic improvement I achieved, the discipline I maintained, and the confidence I developed. These qualities have shaped me into a more committed learner and prepared me for the responsibilities of teaching and leadership.

Through my time at KIU, I strengthened my knowledge in science and education while gaining practical skills such as critical thinking, communication, and problem?solving. Personally, I grew into a more disciplined, resilient, and responsible individual. Interacting with students from diverse backgrounds broadened my perspective and improved my interpersonal skills, teaching me how to balance academics with personal responsibilities.

Leadership became a defining part of my experience. I served as the Faculty Female Member of Parliament (2024–2025) for the Faculty of Education at KIU Western Campus, a role that allowed me to represent female students, advocate for their welfare, and contribute to decision?making within the Faculty. Working closely with student leaders and the university administration taught me the importance of service, teamwork, and standing up for others.

Among the moments I treasure most are the friendships I built, the group study sessions that strengthened my learning, the leadership experiences that shaped my character, and the campus events that made my time at KIU meaningful and memorable.

I am grateful to have received a KIU half bursary, which reduced my financial stress and allowed me to concentrate fully on my studies and leadership roles. This support positively shaped my academic journey and gave me the freedom to focus on growth.

Looking towards the future, I plan to pursue professional development opportunities in education, including teaching practice or employment where I can apply the knowledge and skills I have acquired. I also intend to continue building my experience in leadership and community engagement, as these have been key parts of my university journey.

To everyone still pursuing their dreams here, I encourage you to stay focused, disciplined, and committed to your academic goals. University life comes with both opportunities and challenges, but each experience is part of your growth.

As I reach this turning point in my journey, I sincerely thank God, my family, lecturers, friends, and the entire KIU community for their support, guidance, and encouragement throughout my studies.

This graduation is not just the end of a chapter—it is the beginning of a lifelong mission to teach, lead, and inspire others through education.
