FUMSA President Osodi Warns Medical Students About Laxity After Resuming Studies

FUMSA President Osodi Warns Medical Students About Laxity After Resuming Studies

KIU, Western Campus – The President of the Federation of Uganda Medical Students Associations (FUMSA) Boniface Osodi has warned students about laxity in regard to COVID-19 guidelines after medical schools reopen on August 13th.

The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) announced that the phased reopening of medical schools would start on August 13th and Osodi has warned students to follow all the guidelines put in place to avoid another closure.

“Let’s all work together so that all our efforts and the time we have put in this don’t go to waste. Students should take SOPs seriously,” Osodi said in a communiqué to all medical students.

Osodi, who is a fourth-year Medicine student at KIU Western Campus, said NCHE had brought the date of reopening forward from 30th August to 13th so that they can monitor firsthand how institutions and students adhere to the measures put in place by the Ministry of Health for COVID-19 safety.

“This phased opening of medical schools is being used as a pilot study for opening up of all schools, and if 3 concealed clusters of COVID-19 are got among students, we may go back to square zero in no time,” he warned.

He also encouraged students to get vaccinated as soon as they can and he said FUMSA was in the process of lobbying for students to be vaccinated as soon as they report to school.
