KIU Western Campus Launches English Proficiency Course for International Medical Students

KIU, Western Campus – The Faculty of Clinical Medicine and Dentistry (FCMD) at KIU Western Campus yesterday launched the English Language proficiency course.

The launch, which was held in the Conference Hall of KIU Teaching Hospital, was graced by among others, the Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ADVC) of Finance and Administration Dr. Mustafa Mundu, the ADVC Academics and Research, Ibrahim Babangida, the Dean FCMD Dr. Maxwell Okello and the Deputy Dean FCMD, Dr. Ahmed Kiswezi.

According to Dr. Kiswezi, the English Language proficiency course is very important because it teaches foreign students English for easy communication and proper learning.

“It is aimed at helping the students at KIU Western Campus from non-English speaking countries like Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Burundi, Cameroon, Tanzania, and Madagascar among others learn the language,” Dr. Kiswezi said.

“These students need to have a mastery of the English language, which is the teaching language of the University,” he added.

The course also helps the students to be able to cope with the heavy reading, completion of their course-works, and understanding examination questions well.

It is for both continuing and new students and they will be taught by English Language lecturers from the Faculty of Education. The course will enable students to use the English Language to communicate and understand spoken and written contexts while completing their program of study.
