Bachelor of Public Health

Admission Requirements

  1. The applicant must satisfy the common minimum requirements for entry into University in his/her mother country
  2. In addition, the applicant must fulfill the requirements based on one of the following entry points:

Holders of the Advanced (“A “) Level Certificate: 

  1. Must have sat and passed the Ordinary (“O”) level examination (i.e. Uganda Certificate of Education exam or its equivalent) and obtained a certificate with passes in at least five science subjects at Credit level taken at the same sitting.
  2. Must have sat and passed the Uganda Advanced Level School Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with a principal pass in Biology and at least one other principal pass in Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, plus at least one Subsidiary pass in one of the remaining two subjects.

Holders of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE):

  1. Must hold a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus).
  2. Must have obtained a C+ (plus) in each of the four cluster subjects as shown below:

Holders of School Certificates Graded in Percentage Scores and Average Points (e.g. Rwanda, DRC, Sudan etc.)

Must have their grades first equated/standardized by the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) before seeking for admission into the BPH programme.  The equated scores will be compared with those in 14.1.1 or 14.1.2 above as the case may be.

Holders of Diploma in Health Sciences (e.g. DMLT, DCM, DNS, D. Pharm, Dentistry, Radiography etc)

  1. Must possess a good diploma i.e. with a CGPA of not less than 3.60 calculated from the scores shown in the transcript of the diploma.
  2. Must be registered (if applicable) with the relevant professional council of the home country.
  3. Must have obtained the diploma from an institution of higher learning accredited in his/her home country and recognized by the KIU Senate.

Holders of Bachelor’s Degrees in Sciences:

  1. The degree must be at least at the level of Second Class lower division or its equivalent in CGPA or other systems.
  2. The degree must have been obtained from a degree-awarding institution recognized in his/her country and by the KIU Senate.
  3. The candidate must also have obtained Credit passes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Maths and English language at “O” level or its equivalent.
  4. The Candidate must be qualified for admission into other Bachelor’s degrees in the School of Allied Health Sciences.
