Bachelor of Public Health
Objectives the Programme
The program's goal is to train public Health professionals who can contribute to the improvement of the health of the people in Uganda, the region, and humanity in general, through the provision of high-quality public health services.
At the successful completion of the programme, the graduate shall be able to do the following:
Provision of Public Health Services:
- Carry out routine and specialized public health services.
- Participate effectively in multidisciplinary/multi-sectoral/integrated health services delivery.
- Participate in Multidisciplinary planning, implementation and evaluation of health care for individuals, families and the community as a whole.
- Contribute effectively to the prevention of ill health, promotion and maintenance of good health.
- Provide basics for rational decisions in clinical and Public Health practices.
- Design and manage community-based health-related projects.
- Contribute to the solving of most Public Health challenges at the community level in the framework of the existing financial, social-cultural, political and professional situations.
- Critically plan, initiate, manage, monitor and evaluate primary Health Care interventions at all levels.
- Design, conduct, analyse and interpret results of Public Health studies and projects in order to initiate evidence-based interventions.
- Identify important environmental and occupational health problems and devise locally applicable/sustainable solutions.
Management of Health Services:
- Manage Public Health services in the community and in Health Units by providing Leadership in capacity building and skills that meet the demand arising from complex public health services.
- Increase awareness and appreciation of the importance of public health services in health care delivery.
- Promote linkages between institutions providing health care services locally and internationally.
Generation of Information (Research)
- Carry out / take part in individual/multidisciplinary/multisectoral /integrated types of research and strengthen the capacity to carry out essential health-related research.
- Manage Services in public health laboratories, and participate in the management of public health research establishments.
- Apply principles of research in identifying and managing health problems.
Dissemination of Information (Teaching)
- Plan and implement training / educational programmes for public health and other health workers.
- Engage and maintain productive professional relationships to acquire evaluate and disseminate information appropriately.
Community Leadership
- Be ready, willing and able to play leadership roles in the community.
