Glitz and Glamour at KIU Law Finalists Dinner

By Isaac Akugizibwe

KIU, Main Campus- The KIU Law Finalists had a whale of a time at their dinner night at Aquarius Kigo on Saturday March 19.

From a variety of style in dress code to the sumptuous delicacies on the menu, there was nothing left to doubt that the lawyers were truly some classic folks with an international repute.

The best couple, Justice Ochieng and Winnie Nyamwiza were truly the life of the party. The two were glamorously dressed and matching both in colour coordination and stature, something that required only those with an eye for perfection to determine.

The bespectacled Justice Ochieng carried an authoritative air that commanded  nothing but respect while his date, the classy Nyamwiza simply looked like a million dollar bill, though she seemed to reserve her charming smile for something else.

The guest of honour was Doreen Keita , the deputy Resident City Commissioner for Kampala, and like the rest of the revelers, Counsel Keita rocked.

Quite fittingly, she acknowledged that the day wasn't for speeches but she took some time off to urge the lawyers in the making to embrace the rule of law and stand for human rights.

"Let's not forget our cause as lawyers. We carry a big responsibility in society, especially in a country like Uganda where rule of law is absent or non-functional. It is us to promote and embrace it," she said.

"While we embrace and promote rule of law, let us stand for and defend human rights. I always have a lot of gratitude for the law students who advocate for human rights," she added.

The KIU Annual Law dinner is organized every year by finalist students of law with an aim of bidding farewell to each other and creating avenues for networking with experts and practitioners. It is also a moment to reflect and rekindle memories of a four year academic journey.
