KIU, Main Campus - Peace Chebet Mutai, a fourth-year student of Bachelor of Law at Kampala International University has been crowned Miss Tourism Eastern Uganda.
At an event that took place at Kakungulu Safari Lodge in Mbale City on Saturday night, the 24-year old pageant queen defeated her contenders in a hotly-contested race to become the region’s representative at the upcoming national event.
Chebet, who hails from Bukwo district, promised to come up with a number of ventures that will make the Eastern region tourism sector more exposed than before and impart confidence in the female gender.
"I will use this opportunity to promote eastern region tourism and highlight the rich cultural endowment of Uganda through fashion, music, food and other cultural attributes," she said.
She added that she will use this ambassadorial platform to engage her fellow youth especially those in universities to develop character and grow personal confidence, communication skills, physical fitness, and self-discipline.
Chebet applauded the entire KIU community for the huge support that enabled her to emerge as the overall winner.
"I thank my people at KIU for hugely supporting me especially my fellow members in Rotaract club of Kampala International University who voted for me and mobilized my other people to vote for me," she said.
The Miss Tourism pageant is organized by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) in a close partnership with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) among other tourism sector players.
We at Kampala International University congratulate our very own Peace Chebet Mutai on her win!
