KIU Law Week: A Smashing Success

The KIU Law Week that ran from 10th to 14th February 2020 at the main campus under the theme "Experience during and after Law School in giving back to the Community", was a smashing success.

Among the activities held were a health check, a health walk, sports, issuing of free legal advice, and finally câ¬Ë?muchomocâ¬â?c and a closing party to end the week in style.

According to the Constitutional Minister, Dike Kakuru, the law week aided both the law students and the institution to give back to the community through creating awareness of the law, and this was done through activities like door to door outreach, donation of blood, and even giving legal aid to the community about land grabbing and family disputes which happened to be the greatest issues that are affecting the people residing in nearby areas.

In addition, students have gained experience in providing legal aid through different sessions including a symposium for mentorship, leadership, and career-building which thereby helped in building awareness and corporate identity for University.

Through highly interactive sessions with different speakers like; Alice Namuli Blazzevic, Former Vice President Uganda Law Society; Sandra Oryoma, Head of Legal Aid at the Public Interest Law Clinic (PILAC); and Joseph Anguria, a Community Development Specialist, the KIU law community, has gained a lot of knowledge on the practice of law.

Also, the KIU Law community has vowed to hold more activities in the campus so that students can be able to gain more insight about pursuing careers in law.
