Leiden University was founded in 1575 and is one of the leading international research universities in Europe. KIU and Leiden have a collaboration that includes health and Open FAIR Data Science. KIU and Leiden lead together the Virus Outbreak Data Network-Africa and built capacity in the Digital Innovations and Skills Hub as well as the PhD programme Globalisation, Accessibility, Innovation and Care (GAIC). The programme is coordinated by Prof Mirjam van Reisen at Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC).

KIU also co-chairs the FAIR Implementation Network on Open Science.
