Academic World Mourns Prof Tolly Mbwette

KIU, Western Campus – The academic world is still in shock over the death of Prof Tolly Mbwette, who has been the Chairperson of the University Council at Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT).

Prof Mbwette passed away last week at Aga Khan Hospital in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania and news of his passing was broken to the KIU community in Uganda by the Vice-Chancellor KIU, Dr Mouhammad Mpezamihigo.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Prof Mbwette, Chairperson of the University Council, Kampala International University in Tanzania. May the Almighty accept his good works and rest him in eternal peace,” Prof Mpezamihigo said in a short message.

Prof K V Jayakumar, from the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal in Telangana, India also mourned Prof Mbwette.

“I had occasions to meet and interact with Prof Mbwette during my visit to Tanzania in September 2002 and I was amazed at his organizational skills and interpersonal relationships. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Prof Jayakumar said of his fallen colleague.

Prof Mbwette gained a wide range of management experiences of higher educational institutions at various universities in East Africa.

He had a Bachelor of Sciences in engineering, specializing in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Civil engineering from the University of London.

May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
