KIU, Main Campus - The popular Senegalese Singer and Investor Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam, famously known by his stage name Akon, is set to build a $6 Billion city in Uganda come 2036.

Regarding this investment, the Government of Uganda on Monday, 5th April, announced its decision to allocate the singer land equivalent to 1 square mile. The city will operate on AKoin Currency, a stellar-based cryptocurrency he developed

The city will run alongside Akon’s City development in his home nation of Senegal which will also operate on his cryptocurrency.

The Akon City will include a Hamptons Hospital campus, parks, stadiums, police department, a waste management system, shopping malls music studios, and tourist resorts.

Akon's visit follows a recent visit of his wife, Rozina Negusir, to Uganda earlier this year. During her visit, she met President Museveni with whom she discussed different possible investment ventures.

Regarding the new development plan, Ugandans are excited and look forward to Akon City come 2036. On the other hand, however, some worry as to whether citizens will afford the city or not.

Addressing this issue, Akon said, “I know if I put it there, they’re going to find a way to afford it because it’s going to motivate them.”

“Ultimately when you create an opportunity, people grow with that opportunity, people learn with that opportunity, people are motivated with that opportunity,” he added to say.
