DHDR Holds Capacity-building Training for all Postgraduate students and staff

KIU, Main Campus- The Directorate of Higher Degrees and Research (DHDR) is geared towards ensuring quality research and supervision for Postgraduate students. As part of the process, the Directorate on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, conducted a successful capacity-building training for all Postgraduate students and staff.

The training held at the 5th floor of the Iddi Basajjabalaba Memorial Library focused on research hearings and progress schedules for postgraduate research and familiarization with Research Ethic Clearance (REC), its essence and Procedure.

The main objective of the training was to acquaint the Postgraduate students with the stages involved in the research public hearings due to recent modifications.

The training also sought to raise awareness regarding the importance of obtaining Research Ethics Clearance and clearance from the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology before a student goes to the field for data collection.

According to Prof. Israel O. Obaroh, Director of DHDR, the Directorate is aimed at ensuring that students graduate when due without any compromise on the quality of research.

He adds that, for quality and smooth research activities students are advised to adhere to the guidelines.

"Students are encouraged to present their Concept note/Topic while still in year 1 Semester 2. All research papers should be subjected to an originality test before they are presented," empasized Prof Israel.

Dr. Muriithi Irene, the Director of Quality Assurance, Prof. Gabriel Adenyuma, the Associate Dean of the School of law, Prof. Ahmed Kiswezi, Chairperson of KIU REC, Ms. Kyomuhendo Medrine, the Administrator for KIU REC, and Mr. Kayabula Alex, serving as the administrator for DHDR were among the attendees at the training.
