HESFB Releases 8th Cohort of Students to Beneficiaries

KIU, Main Campus - The government awarded study loans to 3,926 students in tertiary institutions for the 2021/2022 academic year at Uganda Media Center on Monday.

While releasing the list, Dr. Micheal Wanyama, the Executive Director of Higher Education Students Financing Board, said the board received applications from over 4,700 students in the first lot.

He added that Parliament released Shs 6.2 billion for this year and the first lot of 920 students will utilize Shs3.8billion while the second batch of 600 students slated to be released next month will utilize 2.2 billion shillings.

The board has this time released the lists in two phases after some institutions failed to admit students before the first deadline that elapsed last year.

The Board received 130 Applicants under Continuing Students and has approved the award of loans to 120 of the final year students, 85 (71%) being male while 35 (29%) are female.

Meanwhile, Wanyama says that for those who have missed out on this opportunity, there is going to be a window of appeal effective today and closing after 7 days with appeal forms availed online.

A total of 4,797 loan applications for Lot I institutions were received of which 3,926 were appraised and found eligible for support. 

And 72 student beneficiaries from Kampala International University were considered for this particular opportunity, Congratulations!
