The Helping Hands for Relief and Development (HHRD) in conjunction
with Kampala International University (KIU) is organizing a one-day
Youth Seminar on Leadership tagged: “Preparing Oneself for the Contemporary Leadership Challenge”. The programme, which is the 2nd in-country Youth Leadership Forum, is scheduled for Wednesday, 28th November, 2018, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, at the Senate Board Room.
The programme, which is geared towards developing and enhancing
leadership capacities amongst students’ leaders, is targeted for
students’ leaders in various institutions of higher learning in Kampala,
Uganda. Kampala International University – KIU, Islamic University in
Uganda – IUIU, International University of East Africa – IUEA, among
other Universities in Kampala are participating in the seminar.
The Vice Chancellor, KIU, Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, who officially
opened the event, appreciates HHRD for accepting to collaborate with KIU
to organize the event, as he welcomed the guest speakers and all
participants to KIU, while instructing that all visitors should be shown
around the University, to see and know what KIU is all about.
In his remarks, Dr. Mouhamad gave a ‘Nine Point Agenda’ for youth leaders to work with as they will make them become better youths in the 21st Century. The highpoints are:
- Be creative and have a sense of imagination
- Be a critical thinker
- Be flexible and adaptable
- Be a good communicator
- Always network and collaborate with others
- Be entrepreneurial
- Be religious
- Be smart
- Be a global citizen
Topics like “The Role of youth Leadership in Community Advancement” by Dr. Muhamad Kibuuka of KIU, “Managing Conduct and Character” by Hajj. AbduNasser K. Kiwanuka, the Chief Inspector of Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) School, “Effective Networking and Communication for Youth Leadership” by Dr. Hawa Kasule of Makerere University, “The Sense of Financial Accountability as a Youth” by Mr. Ambrose Kibuuka, a renowned Author, Public Speaker and member of KIU Council, and “Surviving Campus or Students Life”
by Mrs Jovia Karwana, Dean Students Affairs, KIU, have been
incorporated in the seminar, to build leadership capacities among
students’ leaders in Uganda.
The event was also graced by Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed – Programmes Head
(Health Seasonal Programmes) HHRD Nairobi, Kenya, Mr. Mustafa Ssaka –
Programmes Officer HHRD, Uganda, Mr. Haruna Kibirige – Accounts/Admin
Officer HHRD Uganda, Mrs. Christine Kyomuhendo – Deputy Dean Students
Affairs KIU, Mrs. Prisca Adaeze Nenger – Communications Officer KIU, Mr
Sserebe Ibrahim – Executive Assistant to the Vice Chancellor KIU, Mr.
Jasper Alinda – Guild President KIU, among others.
At the end of the seminar, participants will be awarded certificates
to become confirmed HHRD members, for participating in such a unique
training.
