On Friday, November 8th, 2024, the College of Education, Open & Distance Learning (CEODL) in collaboration with the Directorate of Research, Innovations, Consultancy and Extensions (DRICE), organized an impactful and educational public lecture focused on “The Role of Discipline and Religion in Educational Attainment” featuring guest speaker Mr. Mutekanga George, Assistant Commissioner for Private Schools & Institutions, in the Ministry of Education & Sports.
In his compelling address, Mr. Mutekanga noted that discipline plays a vital importance in societal advancement, improvement and empowerment, builds good morals, self-confidence and promotes good academic performance.
"Discipline is about learning acceptable behavior, skills, attitudes and values in a given society and someone’s upbringing affects teaching and learning. When discipline is instilled in you, it will make you succeed since it is a source of moral guidance ", he remarked, adding that discipline and religion can be portrayed in one’s general conduct.
Mr. Mutekanga urged students to take discipline and religion as priorities if they want to succeed in life. He also expressed his appreciation for the chance given to him to deliver an educative, informative and transformative lecture.
The Principal of CEODL, Dr.Wanjala Gidraf Joseph, expressed his appreciation to the commissioner for delivering an educative and transformational lecture. He emphasized that, when students are disciplined their value of education increases because they will understand societal expectations of them.
