In a bid to ensure that every individual that joins KIU receives all the support they require, the Directorate of Student affairs carried out orientation and induction for the freshly admitted students. The session took place on 10th February 2020 at the Main Campus in Kansanga.
The students were handed a booklet prepared by the University Legal Officer, the Directorate of Students' Affairs, and the Directorate of Academic Affairs, harboring freshers' orientation information including the KIU policies, guidelines, and procedures from orientation to graduation.
The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, took pride in informing the new students that KIU as a higher institution of learning in Uganda was ranked in 4th place, according to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities as of 2020.
He therefore encouraged them to uphold their values in accordance with the standard of the university and to watch their behavior in order to stay in line towards achieving their main goal at KIU.
They were cautioned against immorality, prostitution, and alcoholism because such acts may stop one from achieving their main goal, which is the degree at the end of the course.
"I'm raising all this so that you may not destroy your merit-based goal," he said, "Your objective should be to ensure that the merit that brought you here will lead you to graduation."
The freshly admitted students were further cautioned to strive to live within their means and avoid spending money on luxurious things that may strain and cause financial havoc.
The students were also encouraged to take care of their health by making use of the KIU Medical Services offered in the KIU Clinic.
All the freshly admitted students took the matriculation oath, making a promise to abide by the rules and regulations of KIU as stipulated in the University Charter.
