KIU Impresses at the National Inter-University Human Rights 2022

Kampala International University has emerged 2nd runner-up in the 13th Inter-University Human Rights Competition 2022. The tournament took place at Bishop Stuart University Mbarara from 20th-21st June 2022, where over 14 universities participated.

It's on record that, this is the first time KIU has achieved an awardable position ever since the competitions were introduced. There are three positions that are recognized as The Best, 1st and 2nd Runners Up.

According to Sharifu Ntume, a law student and a participant, the great performance for KIU is attributed to teamwork among participants. "We have always worked as a team from the day of the competition especially in making research". He said.

The competition was organised under the theme Building Back Better. Realizing Human Rights in the Post Covid-19 Era and were sponsored by Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, European Union and World Coalition on Against Death Penalty.

Among the topics that were discussed by participants include; 

The Right to Self Determination and United Nations Mechanisms: Myth or reality?

Regular, free, fair and inclusive elections in Uganda: Are we learning any lessons from the past?

Doctrine for the Separation of powers: Is it a practical principle in Uganda today?

The Right to Freedom of Expression and Assembly in Uganda: Progress or Decline- Discuss.

The Oil promise in Uganda: Is it a threat to human rights or a development opportunity?

Gender Parity is still possible- Discuss

Death Penalty: A torturous road, an invisible torture; Discuss.

Human Rights in the Era of Fake News: What are the implications?

The Human Rights Movement in Post Covid 19 Era in Uganda: Has it entered the End-Times or the Twi-light?
