KIU, MAIN CAMPUS - On Thursday, April 17th, 2025, the Main Campus of Kampala International University (KIU) hosted a Leadership Training Workshop, bringing together top university leaders, including Deans, Principals, Directors, Associate Deans, Deputy Principals, Deputy Directors, Heads of Departments, and Heads of Units. The workshop, held at the IBM Library's 5th floor, focused on conflict management and emotional intelligence.
Ambrose Kibuuka's presentation kicked off the event, delving into emotional intelligence and its role in navigating complex situations. Using Nelson Mandela's leadership as an example, Kibuuka highlighted the importance of prioritizing healing and unity over personal grievances. "Mandela's decision to focus on reconciliation rather than retribution after becoming President of South Africa post-Apartheid is a powerful example of emotional intelligence in action," Kibuuka said.
Kibuuka also shared practical strategies for managing and resolving conflicts within teams, emphasizing the value of effective communication, active listening, and empathy. These skills, he noted, are essential for building strong teams and achieving shared goals.
In the second session, Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammed Ngoma emphasized the critical role of customer service in creating lasting, memorable interactions. "If an employer is not treated well, the client will not be treated well either," Prof. Ngoma pointed out. "Prioritizing excellent customer service is essential, not just for clients, but also for our colleagues and team members."
Through interactive sessions and discussions, the workshop equipped KIU's leaders with valuable insights and tools to enhance their leadership skills, ultimately benefiting the university community.
