KIU, Western Campus - The KIU Neuroscience Forum in collaboration with the DANA Foundation and Anatomical Society of Uganda will be hosting the Brain Awareness Week 2024.
The program, which will be held over two days on March 15th and 16th, 2024, is aimed at creating awareness on brain health and substance abuse among university students in Western Uganda.
According to Dr. Usman Ibe, the Head of Human Anatomy at KIU Western Campus and the convener of the event, the program was organized because of increased substance abuse among university students.
“The recent increase in substance abuse among youths in the post-pandemic era calls for urgent attention,” Dr. Ibe said.
“Hence the need to come up with a viable community outreach program to ensure that the most affected population are reached,” he added.
The program will commence with a seminar on Brain Health and Substance Abuse at the University Main Hall on March 15th and end with an aerobics session at the Basketball court on March 16th.
The expected speakers include Dr. Victor Archibong from the University of Rwanda, Dr Bives Mutume, the Head of the Psychiatry Department at KIU Teaching Hospital, and Prof. Emeka Anyanwu, the Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences.
Furthermore, the Brain Awareness Week will be graced by Assoc. Prof, Eric Mabonga, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of KIU Western Campus, and Dr. Mustafa Mundu, the Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration (ADVC-F&A)
