KIU NRM Chapter celebrates 10 years

KIU, Main Campus-The KIU NRM Chapter celebrated a decade of existence on Sunday 12th March 2023 in a highly attended ceremony that also saw President Bosco Tumumuramye hand over power to Benard Katanzi who will lead the chapter for the next one year.

The chief guest of the ceremony was Miss Rose Mary Namayanja NRM's deputy secretary general who was represented by Patrick Obura, the executive assistant to the office of the NRM general secretary. She advised students to participate actively in the economic development of the country.

"It is better to love your party and to involve in politics but you should not only need to focus on politics but also try finding better alternatives of getting better grades and contributing towards the economic development of Uganda," she said in a message read by Obura.

KIU NRM Chapter patron, Hon.Okot Boniface who also doubles as Member of Parliament representing the youth from Northern Uganda rejoinded by calling upon young people to join the struggle against economic persecution of Ugandans.

"My appeal to you as students is to not only get involved in elections of the Guild but to also participate actively in the economic liberation of yourselves and others. I will be happy if am called to talk about the different ways of ending economic persecution of our people," he said.

"You must be seen to be a change-maker in your communities," he added.

In his handover speech, Tumumuramye called upon students and all young people to focus on things that will benefit their lives in and outside school.

"My call to the young people is that we should stick to things that matter. Life is what you make it," he said.

He asked students not to expect a lot from the incoming chapter chairperson but to support him and ensure that he moves the chapter from where he has left it.

"When we become NRM

chapter chairpersons, people think we get tokens from the mother party which is not the case, we have to give our best. It is upon that I request each of us to support the incoming chairperson just like you supported me," he added.

Tumuramye's tremendous achievements as KIU NRM Chapter Chairperson have made him a popular figure in the University and in the NRM party where he is regarded as one of the most active young cadres of the party.

Apart from Hon Okot Boniface and Patrick Obura, the 10-year anniversary and handover ceremony was attended by several other dignitaries and high-ranking officials from the government and the National Resistance Party(NRM).
