KIU, Main Campus - First-year students offering Industrial Chemistry at KIU were on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, introduced to income-generating practical projects as part of enhancing their creativity towards providing solutions to common problems in society.
Supervised by Shadrack Muhabura, President KIU Industrial Chemistry Community, Wycliff Ampaire, and Aggrey Mutai, lecturer and projects coordinator respectively, the fresh chemists were introduced to making liquid soap, hair shampoo, petroleum jelly, scented candles among others.
The projects will be carried out once a month according to Muhabura. He said that the projects are meant to integrate literacy and creativity into learning.
‘’These projects are ways of integrating literacy and creativity into learning during our journey at campus. They help the first years to love their course and also dive deeper and challenge themselves in their academic area,’’ Muhabura explained.
He added that the same projects are aimed at solving some problems in society especially shortage of jobs.
