KIU Western Campus – The United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Clubs is holding its 2023 Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition, whose unparalleled connectivity puts youth in one of the greatest positions to bring much-needed change to the world.

The competition, which is being held under the theme, “Empowering Local Communities to Fulfill Global Missions,” is in line with UNESCO’s mission, which is to mobilize the optimism of youth to respond to an acute world problem to serve others now.

KIU students are eligible for participation under the Young Adult category, which requires entries from people aged 20-24 years.

This year’s question requires a participant to pick one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), develop a project related to the SDG one chooses, which must include naming one’s project and why it is important, naming the project’s goals/objectives, where one intends to do their project for example with your church, school, community or organization as well as the date of starting and completion of the project.

The next step is doing one’s project which entails taking videos, pictures and documentation of the results plus the impact of the project.

The last step is putting all together the project and sending it to UNESCO. Participants should create a video, presentation or essay with images sharing the answers to the above questions in step 2 with the results they achieved and anything else that a participant may deem to be important to share.

The three finalists in this age group will receive an official certificate with their names. They will also receive an invitation to UNESCO’s Builders of the Universe Camp at the Hood College in Frederick, Maryland in the USA.

The invitation will include a scholarship for the fee for the camp, food accommodations and transport to and from the airport but money for the air ticket is not included in the package.

The competition doesn’t accept group submissions and some of the guidelines include; originality of the work, all participants must fill in a submission form, work must be Times New Roman font 12, double-spaced 500-700 words in MLA format and images.

Videos must be 3 minutes maximum and all presentations and essays with images need to be sent in PDF images.

Deadline for submissions is March 31st, 2023.
