KIU, Main Campus- Martin Pinto Sewankambo is determined to make a difference in Uganda's education system as he looks to embark on what he calls,"motivational education" when he achieves a Master of Education in Educational Management and Administration due this Saturday at KIU's 30th graduation ceremony.

Sewankambo, a popular figure in the College of Education Open and Distance Learning(CEODL) did his first degree, also in Education at KIU. He was first inspired by his sister to join Uganda's leading private University.

"Joining KIU was a dream that came to reality. My Sister studied here and she always inspired me to join and guess what, the rest is history. Nampeera Sharon Pinto, a living inspiration to my academia," he disclosed.

"That aside, the popularity of the University attracted me as well. The Name KIU sounds Countrywide in different avenues, for example, basketball, "KIU titans," woodball, and the victory over years in the Law moot competitions," he added.

During his first degree, Sewankambo was a distinguished student leader, serving in several leadership positions. He was a vice president and President of the College of Education Students Association, Vice President Nkobazambogo KIU as well as Speaker of Sentema Region (Buganda Regional Leadership).

"Being a leader exposed me in and outside KIU. This made me associate with a myriad of people, both lecturers, fellow students and several resourceful individuals in the country," he noted.

He said that receiving an award of the best Leader after his reign was the greatest moment for him at KIU while seeing fellow students drop out due to different reasons like the loss of their parents and inability to raise dues marked his lowest moments.

Sewankambo's Advice to Fellow Graduands

As we go out to the world, let's keep to the standards of our institution. Let us be time-conscious at work, being disciplined so as to inculcate knowledge among our followers.

Be as creative as possible, so as to invent new things to address our challenges.

Plans after Graduation

As an Employee at Makindye SS, I wish to add value to the institution through "Motivational Education" so as to steer learners to deviant destinations.

Add value to Makindye SS through the academic achievement attained and lobby more learners for KIU.

I hope to add value to my country as a whole by emphasizing "Mindset change" to boost innovation and invention.
