National Council for Higher Education Visits KIU Medical School

KIU, Western Campus – A team from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) on March 22 visited the Medical School at KIU Western Campus on a facility verification visit for Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery.

The team began its two-day visit with a tour of KIU’s satellite study center at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, before proceeding to Hoima and Fort-Portal Regional Referral Hospitals, winding up their tour with a visit to the Medical School at KIU Western Campus.

They arrived at KIU Western Campus on March 21 and immediately embarked on a guided tour of KIU Teaching Hospital and the new library.

On March 22, they toured the new Biomedical facility and visited its’ well-equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories and teaching spaces plus the Institute for Biomedical Research.

They then proceeded to the Engineering boardroom where they had a meeting with medical students and later gave a debrief to staff and management.

In their debrief, the NCHE team commended the KIU Chairman Board of Trustees (CBOT) Dr. Al Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba for the investment in equipment and laboratories for the proper training of medical students for the job market.

The team was equally impressed by the addition of more staff, the stocked library and adequate equipment and laboratories for training students in the sites and KIU Teaching Hospital.

The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mouhammad Mpezamihigo extended his thanks to the NHCE team for taking time to make this visit and for the various recommendations the team made to the university, adding that the university will take the team’s recommendations seriously.
