President Museveni Threatens to Start Importing Food if Suppliers Continue Hoarding

KIU, Main Campus – President Yoweri Museveni, during his presidential address on the state of COVID-19 in Uganda, outrightly denounced suppliers of foodstuffs who are hoarding goods so as to sell when the prices go up.

After expressing his disappointment towards them by mentioning his intolerance for ‘selfish people’, he threatened to start importing goods which in the long run would cause the hoarders to lose out.

“There is not enough maize or beans because people are withholding it from the market. They are hoarding it,” the President said.

“If I hear that there is not enough maize or beans on the market, if I just get a whisper that the food is not enough, then I will just import and forget about you because you are crooks trying to take advantage of your people,” he added.

Museveni warned that if suppliers continue hoarding, they will instead end up with rotten goods as he will instead opt to import cheaper foods from other countries.
