Ahmad Adekilekun is the Deputy Director in the Directorate of Research, Innovation, Consultancy and Extension of Kampala International University. He started working as a Medical Officer with the Hospitals’ Management Board of Osun State, Nigeria from where he took up a lecturing appointment with Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria. He later joined the service of Ekiti State University, where he was until his appointment as a Professor of Anatomy with Kampala International University, Uganda. He previously was appointed an Associate Professor of Anatomy by Edo University, Iyamo-Nigeria and a Professor of Anatomy by the University of Gitwe, Rwanda. He was also at one time or another a Visiting Faculty to the Department of Anatomy, Ben Carson Jr School of Health Sciences, BABCOCK University, Ilisan-Remo-Nigeria and the Department of Anatomy, College of Medical and Allied Health Sciences, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti-Nigeria. He was the Country Director for Medical Career Academy-United Kingdom, the position which he maintained until the early part of the year 2020.
He bagged a Doctoral degree and Master of Science degree in Anatomy from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife-Nigeria and University of Ilorin, Ilorin-Nigeria respectively and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso-Nigeria. He holds a full registration of long standing with Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as a medical practitioner and a Certificate in Electron Microscopy from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India.
Ahmad has authored, co-authored and edited books, contributed chapters in books and published several articles in refereed and highly reputable local and international peer reviewed academic journals. He has attended many local, regional and international scientific conferences in the field of anatomical and medical sciences, at many of which he presented different results of his research work and at some where he chaired scientific sessions. He has also presented several seminar papers and developed a host of manuals for workshop and professional training. He was at a time the organizing chairman of the National Scientific Conference of Anatomical Society of Nigeria, being a member of reputable professional associations.
In his journey as an academic staff, he has had the opportunity of developing an academic curriculum for Diploma Program in Mortuary and Anatomy Laboratory Techniques at Ekiti State University, preparing the curriculum for undergraduate (Bachelor of Science) program in Anatomy at both Osun State University and Ekiti State University, preparing the curriculum for postgraduate (PGDA, MSc and Ph.D) programs in Anatomy at Ekiti State University and working as a member of the Curriculum Development Committee of International Degree Foundation (IDF) for undergraduate courses in Medical Sciences. He held many administrative and research positions of responsibility at his previous places of work including which are Member of the Board of Postgraduate Studies, Chairman of Faculty Committee on Postgraduate Studies, Acting Head of Department and Chairman of the Departmental Academic Board, Member of University Senate, Chairman of the College Environmental Sanitation Committee, Chairman of Faculty Strategic Plan Implementation Committee, Member of the College Board of Examiners, Member of the Faculty Academic Review Panel, Member of the Faculty Research Committee, Chairman of Animal Research Advisory Committee, Desk Editor of Research Journal of Health Sciences and later, Member of the Editorial Board of the journal to mention but few.
Ahmad has supervised a number of postgraduate theses to completion and has served as an external examiner to the Postgraduate School of the College of Health Sciences, University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa in 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2019/2020 Academic Sessions. His research interest in anatomical and medical education has made him to propound era for anatomy in Nigeria and Africa by extension, and to identify specialties of anatomy to include Microscopic Anatomy and Stereology, Medical Embryology and Cytogenetics, Clinical and Radiological Anatomy and Forensic Anatomy and Anthropology.
