Dr. Susanne Nambatya is a Senior lecturer and head of Department for Development, Peace and Conflict Studies in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kampala International University (KIU).
Dr. Susanne has experience of over 5 years working as a Social Scientist on numerous development projects; doing social assessments, conducting baseline surveys, carrying out project implementations and program evaluations. She has worked in the sectors of Social Development, Energy, Health, Water and Environment; for both Government and Private Sector with regard to government and international funded projects. Susanne Nambatya has participated in projects geared towards: (i) Community Education; (ii) Youth Development (youth empowerment and youth employment), (iii) Community Development and (iv) Research, Monitoring and Evaluation. Her work has been largely entailed with working with communities; – particularly providing social services, undertaking investigations and research into the challenges facing communities, working with communities on projects aimed at uplifting their living conditions and implementation of the projects.
She has five years’ experience in teaching with competence in handling areas of development studies, research methodology, social work practice, English academic writing and norms. During her tenure as a social scientist, as a researcher, as a teacher and as a student, she has been privileged to participate in national, regional, divisional, district, sub county and village level researches on social problems affecting individuals and communities. Notably, she served on the technical committee that developed the 2011 national report on commercial sexual exploitation of children in Uganda. She has participated and influenced several reforms in social development as a negotiator, an advocate, an enabler, an investigator, a counsellor and a teacher. Her consultancy experience with both the private and public sector predates her life as a social worker, having started engaging in freelance consultancy in 2007. To date, she has competently offered diverse consultancy services to both public and private sector clients and played roles ranging from individual consultant, team leader to research assistant. As a well learned professional, she has trained a sizeable number of NGO field staffs in areas of project implementation, reporting, monitoring and support supervision. She has also moderated several workshops and facilitated dialogues leading to different social development outcomes. In a nutshell, the knowledge and skills acquired from work and study related experiences has prepared her into a competent professional able to excel and complete projects, can ably lead a team to deliver, with ability to adapt to new environments and deal with individuals of diverse cultural background.
Regarding her academic background, she has a Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration obtained from Makerere University Kampala (MUK). She holds a Master of Management in Contemporary Development of China obtained from Beijing Normal University (BNU) in Beijing, China. She has a Doctoral Degree of Management in Rural Development and Management Studies obtained from China Agricultural University. She has a certificate in statistical data analysis (using SPSS, Excel and Epi info) obtained from Uganda College of Management Research and Training, Kampala, Uganda. She has a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education and a Uganda Certificate of Education that show that she completed her advanced and ordinary levels of her secondary education. She also completed her primary education with the Primary Leaving Examinations.
