Dr. Aluku Hellen is the Associate Director, Postgraduate Studies and Research, Kampala International University (KIU) Western Campus. She holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. Her research involves Management of evapotranspiration for sustainable agriculture in semi-arid cultivated African catchments. This encompasses interdisciplinary research including socio aspects, science-policy interface, and economics of agricultural practices. She has research interests in water resources engineering/management, agricultural systems, agricultural water management and food security. Hellen is primarily interested in evaluation of opportunities that exist in the framework of science-policy interface and how these can be exploited to enhance adoption of new innovative agricultural practices by smallholder famers. Besides research activities, Hellen also lectures masters and postgraduate students at the faculty of engineering of KIU. The core course units include hydraulics engineering and advanced surface water hydrology. Currently she is pursuing a postdoc at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
