KIU, Main Campus-On the 15th day of March every year, the department of Social work at KIU joins the rest of the World to commemorate the world social workday, a day aimed at reflecting and uplifting the importance of social workers world over. In Uganda, the celebration was held at African Renewal University and KIU had 30 social work students in attendance.

This year's celebration ran under the theme; "Co-building a new eco-social world, leaving no one behind."

Attracting social students and lecturers from over 11 big Universities in Uganda, this year's event is said to have left a lasting impact in the lives of everyone who attended. True to that, KIU's representatives returned with enormous testimonies of how they had learnt from the facilitators who spoke that day.

"I learnt that actually social work is not just a profession but also a calling to work with an aim of putting and keeping a smile on another person," Isaac Rusoke, a third-year student of Social work and Social administration confessed.

"We were convinced beyond reasonable doubt that as humans living on earth, each one needs the other. We all need each other," he added.

"I learnt that Social Work is needed everywhere. Every place you move to will need a social worker's assistance. Social workers are like doctors, our calling is service above self and making society a better place," Philip Masari also a third-year student of Social work and Social administration said.

patience Kukundakwe said that the event changed her view of the world as a social worker in making.

" I now know my responsibility and worth as a student of Social work," she said.

Gloria Musiime, Maria Namukisa, Teddy Nanyunja and Milly Nalubega , all agree that the day was very fruitful. They have already started spreading the message to their classmates and other students.

"We have been sharing the good news we got from the commemoration at African Renewal University with our fellows here. We hope to change many using the same message," Milly Nalubega said.

The 2022 World Social work day held at Africa Renewal University on 15 March 2022 was attended by more than 11 Universities and over 200 students, lecturers and experts in Social work and social administration.
