Uganda yesterday suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of title contenders Senegal at the Kigali Arena, losing 55-93 in the Afrobasket while KIU Titans Ariel Okall’s Kenya also lost 70-88.
Uganda faced an uphill battle against one of Africa’s top-ranked teams and were brushed aside effortlessly and rather unsurprisingly, after Uganda’s last big game against Senegal also saw them lose 48-79 in Tunisia in 2015.
In a game that dependable Ishmail Wainright was a no-show, Adam Seiko, the only Ugandan to score double digits, took over Uganda's offense, scoring a team-high 12 points.
Uganda head coach George Galanopoulos later admitted that his team was "Not well prepared. I don't think I helped them make adjustments at the right time and during the game. Offensively, we weren't moving the ball. 17 assists, 24 turnovers is not the numbers we want. " he told fiba.basketball.
Meanwhile, a combative Kenya went down fighting, with KIU Titans star Ariel Okall registering 4 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist before coming off in the last quarter.
