KIU, Western Campus – KIU Teaching Hospital, in one of its latest service upgrades, recently installed a state-of-the-art CT scan aimed at offering quality services to prospective patients.

The 16-slice Toshiba Alexion 4 CT scan is the only one of its kind in the greater Bushenyi sub-region, according to the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Isma Bagaga.

“It is a newer model, its output is very good and very clear, and it has timely delivery,” Bagaga revealed.

“After your scan is done, you receive your report immediately. It is very important for people to know that we have such a very high-quality equipment which can help solve their health issues,” he added.

Benjamin Habaasa, a senior technologist in the radiology department of KIU Teaching Hospital says the scan has helped save lives in the sub-region, especially those of accident victims.

“As you know, there are many accidents along the Kasese-Mbarara highway and this CT scan is important in identifying and pinpointing areas of, for example, brain trauma hence saving lives,” Habaasa says.

He adds that the scan, being one of a kind in the area, has acted as a teaching tool for undergraduate and postgraduate students in institutions around the region of Western Uganda.

The radiology department of KIU Teaching Hospital has also acted as a referral unit for Health centers in over 15 districts in Western Uganda for CT scan services.

The department is run by 2 senior technologists and 3 consultant radiologists, who are some of the best in radiology in the whole of Western Uganda.

The 16-Slice CT Scanner captures multiple images of a patient's anatomy in a matter of seconds and presents information 3-dimensionally.

This means the images of the body are now taken much faster, therefore reducing the examination time and increasing your comfort.
