KIU, Western Campus – KIU Western Campus medical students are over the moon, following the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE)recommendation that they return to school on Friday this week.

In an August 6th letter, the Executive Director of NCHE Mary Okwakol announced that the date for reopening the medical schools had been brought forward from August 30th to 13th.

Okwakol also stated that inspection of the schools will be done after students have reported and arrangements had been done for the vaccinations to be done at the schools.

And though the reopening is likely to cover only medical students in their clinical training years, the move has given hope to those in other years that they could be allowed to return to school as well.

Boniface Osodi, a fourth-year medical student at KIU Western Campus expressed relief.

“It has been an intense four days, with the pressure and disorganization created by the media. Thanks to all those who supported the cause,” he said.

Sarah Mutonyi, a Bachelor of Clinical Medicine and Community Health student called the announcement “the best news I have received this year.”
